The respected British magazine The Economist has named Portugal as the “Economy of the Year 2025”, ranking it first among 36 of the world’s most advanced economies.
According to the ranking, Portugal’s outstanding performance is the result of a combination of factors: GDP growth well above the European average, stable and controlled inflation, and a strongly rising capital market.
The report highlights the tourism sector – together with the increasing influx of affluent foreign residents and investors – as a central driver of this economic recovery, also boosting the labour market and domestic investment.
In 2025, the Portuguese stock market rose by more than 20%, reflecting strong investor confidence in the national economy.
This recognition confirms Portugal as a highly competitive and attractive destination for investment, residency, and long-term projects, particularly in an international context.
